Training Overview
Taught by Ana Forrest and assisted by Steve Emmerman & Talya Ring, the 22-day intensives and teacher training follow a streamlined curriculum that has been developed over the course of Ana's nearly 40 years teaching experience to offer you a solid foundation in the art of teaching Forrest Yoga® and a transformational experience fostering personal and professional growth and promoting powerful insights that provide deeper integration with your true authentic self.
Meditation and Intensives
6-9am
Each day starts off with a ceremony involving chanting, drumming and meditation to set the intent for the day and create the space for healing and connection to your Spirit, followed by a 2-hour intensive that will create a heightened sense of physical, emotional and spiritual awareness while challenging every muscle and cell in your body. Through a carefully sequenced Forrest Yoga asanas, Ana will open you to amazing depths and feelings of awareness. You will leave feeling cleansed, refreshed and alive. The intensives are a sanctuary where you can feel safe to open up, work through issues that may arise and go beyond your perceived limitations. You will learn about yourself and feel what it is like to have freedom in your own body and mind. The intensives are sure to bring each trainee to new levels within their yoga practice. Injuries and special needs are addressed so that each trainee experiences these classes as part of his or her own healing practice.
Teacher Training
11:30am-5pm (Mon-Fri)
12:30-6:30pm (Sat & Sun)
The afternoon sessions encompasses a five to six hour sessions of training and instruction. Working from a comprehensive manual of over 300 pages, distilled from Ana's nearly 40 years of experience, trainees begin practice teaching on the first day - initially in small groups, eventually teaching beginning-level yoga students during the "Introduction to Forrest Yoga" workshop. Trainees will hone their skills through a variety of exercises designed to help them to master the essential elements of teaching, including:
- class sequencing
- seeing and understanding physical structure and energy
- use of safe and effective hands-on adjustments
- communication by verbal and non-verbal means
- effective use of class dialogue and tone of voice
- continued development of a more engaging presence and self-awareness in your class
"Introduction to Forrest Yoga" Workshop
Two weekend workshops titled, Introduction to Forrest Yoga, are offered to the public. Trainees team-teach these workshops, rotating between teaching class, assisting and adjusting under Ana's supervision. These workshops are videotaped for review. This hands-on experience leads to informative feedback for trainees as they develop their teaching style and skills, regardless of their teaching experience.
Functional Anatomy for Yoga Teachers
This dynamic three-day anatomy intensive will give teachers new tools to communicate the benefits of yoga.
Ellen Heed has a gift for translating the complex language of western anatomy into usable, practical concepts that yoga teachers can successfully integrate into their teaching. You learn names of bones, muscles, and connective tissues and how to locate them in both your own and your student’s body. Why and how we are different from each other becomes the basis for how to use yoga as a tool to develop your strengths and strengthen your weaknesses.
All participants in the Forrest Yoga Foundation teacher Training are required to take this training in addition to the main training, and have to register separately. See details here
